TRANSITIONAL ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM (TAP)
“Our Transitional Advancement Program (TAP) works to get people back into society in a productive manner,” says Founder and Director Cliff Brown. “So it’s a hand up, not just a hand out.”
TAP Three-step process
Step One: TEAM WORKZ’s Administrative Assistant is the first person clients meet when entering the headquarters. Everyone who comes in fills out a questionnaire with basic background information along with their immediate and specific needs. Items that are available at TEAM WORKZ headquarters are school supplies, camping equipment, blankets, coats, and hygiene products. If TEAM WORKZ doesn’t have something a person needs, like shoes, we will contact a partner organization for help.
Step Two: The next step is for the individuals to talk with our Director of Operations, who works like a case manager connecting people with monetary resources and other forms of support. TEAM WORKZ headquarters has conference rooms/office space where clients can meet privately one-on-one with a counselor to discuss whatever obstacles to independence they are facing. TEAM WORKZ's qualified, volunteer staff can help with such problems as:
Step Three: For those clients who qualify for advanced assistance and additional resources, TEAM WORKZ helps them change their situation by assisting them in obtaining a job, housing, and transportation. We also partner with multiple therapists who hold group therapy sessions, including those who are familiar with helping veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder.
Everyone in Step Three must attend classes to continue with the program. We also require clients to participate in a 21-day Behavior Modification Plan designed to help them overcome the 'bad habits' they have developed that keep them from living sustainable lives independently. Classes are kept to a maximum of 10 participants per group, are an hour long, and are held at TEAM WORKZ headquarters. For a list of classes, click here.
If you are interested in participating in TAP, you must pre-register by calling 910.315.0262 for an on-site appointment. If you don't have means to reach headquarters in person, transportation may be provided on a limited basis.
